Wayfinding LCCA

This project investigates the current wayfinding system at the London College of Contemporary Arts (LCCA), focusing on the challenges faced by students and visitors in navigating the campus. Through a visual and spatial analysis of signage, floor layouts, and entry points, the project highlights the inconsistencies, lack of directional guidance, and visual clutter present in key areas such as the main lift lobby and corridors. The aim is to propose clear, user-friendly improvements to enhance orientation and create a more welcoming and intuitive environment.

challenge.

The main challenge identified was the lack of clear and consistent signage throughout the college, especially near the lift area where navigation begins. Visitors are left unsure of which direction to take, as there are no indicators for room locations or wings. Additionally, the walls are overcrowded with posters, making it harder to focus on useful information. Some areas, like the conference room (The Garage), have no signage at all, creating confusion for new users trying to find their way.
